Far beyond the East Ridge of Manitoulin Island's Elizabeth Bay it seems as if an asteroid plummeted into Lake Huron leaving a titanic splashback. I think this is a cumulonimbus incus cloud. "Incus" is Latin for "anvil," which this meteorological phenomenon can also be said to resemble. The cloud rises until it bumps into the stratosphere; it then spreads out and flattens but the clouds below, appearing above the tree line, appear far more terrifying. As Wikipedia tells us, cumulonimbus incus clouds are associated with severe weather including downbursts, heavy rain, and even the occasional tornado.
