Description
Welcome to Abraham Lake! This lake is probably best known for the ice bubbles that form in the winter. The lake was made as part of the construction of the Bighorn Dam in 1972 — a project that flooded the Kootenay Plains and effectively ended the hunting and fur trapping of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation in the area. Behind the lake lies Mount Michener, a part of the Canadian Rockies and the Ram Range. Before being named Mount Michener in 1982, it was also known as Eye Opener Mountain and Phoebe's Teat - my personal favourite 💀. The mountain is apparently home to an undocumented limestone cave system.
