Feeding the Chicks!

Description

This Is a male Yellow Shafted Flicker...a member of the woodpecker family. I recently returned to a tree that I had observed Eastern Bluebirds nesting in last season. This year there's a family of Yellow Shafted Northern Flickers using the cavity. I observed from a distance, the edge of the ditch , the tree is on private property. In this frame the male takes a break from feeding the young ones and shows off his brilliant red plumage on the backside of its head.
