A male Northern Pintail showing off his wings. Two males were together in a local pond among a flock of mallards. Most of the pond is still frozen, but there was just enough warm weather and melt to open up a section big enough for the birds. Northern Pintails are known for their slender build and long necks, warm around feathers and baby blue patch on its beak. And most obviously and famously, these birds are known for their elongated central "pin-like" tail feathers, adding to its elegance. These birds can be found across the Northern Hemisphere but migrate long distances during migration periods.
