Description
This Atlantic Puffin makes for a super portrait recently during a visit to Bonavista and Elliston in Eastern Newfoundland. A breeding colony draws a fair number of visitors ever year to watch these comical looking seabirds. Their populations are relatively stable in Canada from what Ive read but they did suffer substantial declines in the early 1900s due to unregulated egg collection and hunting in their breeding colonies. The Atlantic Puffin is protected now but face potential food shortages related to changes in their food supplies. Stay tuned. The Atlantic Puffin is the provincial bird of Newfoundland and Labrador!!
