Great job on this photo Yves, backlit subjects can be a real challenge

Yves Langlois

Thank you Clifford. The backlit tweking will never gives the beautyful colours of the subject. It's a case of -better than nothing-

Jane LeBlanc

Backlit situations are the worst!! Nice job on the photo, Yves.

Yves Langlois

Thanks Jane. Some shooting conditions are not under our control. So I learned to do the best possible out of the worst.

Nice one, Yves. Your editing brought out some really nice detail on him. I really like the mood you captured here of the lone sentinel in the tree top. They're beautiful birds and I used to see one on my daily commute until the landowner cleared the little stand of roadside trees he always returned to. The Merlin never came back and I have yet to see one since then.

Heather Mellon

I accidentally referred to the bird I used to see as a Merlin but it was actually a Goshawk. The pose you caught this one in sure reminded me of him though.

Yves Langlois

Thank you for the comment Heather. He sure was on the move because I walked that trail many time since and never see him back.

Debra Plett

Nice find Yves…looks like he is scanning the area for lunch. I am glad you were able to get a shot of him given the lighting challenge. Nice looking bird. Nicely captured Yves.

Yves Langlois

Thank you very much Debra

Description
My first encounter with that bird of prey. Unfortunately it was a backlight situation and I could see no details to identify the bird. He finaly turn his head so I could at least identify a bird of prey from the shape of the beak. Post editing light tweeking allow to identify the merlin.
