Description
It was 5 am and I was tossing and turning, awaiting the wake up call from our guide, scheduled for 5:30am. This was not only the day I'd be celebrating my 40th birthday, but also the day, I'd possibly get to have an up and close encounter with one of my favourite mammals; Moose! We all started to roll out of our tents around 6am and had the fire roaring as we warmed up from the somewhat chilly night we'd had! It was decided that it was time to shove off in our canoes at around 6:30 ish... The water was calm, skies were cloudy, but it was still scerene and calm! As we approached a little cove at the northwest side of Tom Thomson Lake, where moose are known to frequent in the morning, there was a calm and awakening breeze. As we steered our canoes around the corner and came into view, I could not make this up if I tried, but seconds later, out came a big and beautiful Cow Moose!!!! We were elated and silently screaming with pure ecstasy as we watched her make her way into the water, where she began feeding on the lily pads. It wasn't but 5 minutes later, we all looked at each other as a sound, something that caught our attention quickly, was coming from our left....... As we turned out heads, the trees and bushes began to violently shake!!! Then.... In all his majestic glory, this stunning 17 pt Bull Moose made his way through to the water and began feeding on the lilies also! You cannot even begin to imagine the ridiculous and insane looks upon our faces as we took in, what can only be described as a true and undeniable backcountry Algonquin Provincial Park experience! We had the opportunity to spend over an HOUR with these two as they are and he continually made advances at her, while she shrugged him off, over and over again... Next month buddy, next month! Right now, she just wanted to feed. Here is the first of MANY captures of this experience! Bull Moose Sept 17, 2022 Tom Thomson Lake Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario
