Thank you so much Jeff. They made it pretty easy for me.. lots of birds gather on this lake, especially during the migration.

Clifford Dupuis

Great pictures and the story is a real tribute to those that work so hard to protect those that cannot speak for themselves. Well done

Heather Mellon

Thank you Clifford, always appreciated. It really is because of those efforts that we're able to get photos of these birds and other wildlife today.

Yves Langlois

Very interesting shot and story Heather. The group in the foreground is nicely posed with their beaks all oriented towards the lighted leader. Good reflection and the two at the back are doing great with the compo of the picture. Well done.

Heather Mellon

Thank you Yves, much appreciated. I was very happy to see this group approach and it really looked like they were all following the leader which is not unusual for swans to do. I thought they all did a great job of lining the shot up for me too.

Debra Plett

What a wonderful shot and story Heather. Very nicely composed capturing lots of detail and reflections. I like how the light still gave a couple of the swans their white colour while the rest where silhouetted, very cool.

Thank you Debra, always appreciated. I try to get shots of the swans together in family groups and they seemed so in sync with one another, plus the water was calm for a change. And the mood was very relaxed.

On my way home on October 30th I decided to check the lake for the Trumpeters and came across a large group of them just before the approach of sunset. I quickly took a few photos of this family with four young cygnets and decided to return the next day to get more shots in better light. Next day I found they had left and located them on another small lake which is difficult to access. Shortly before freeze up they returned to this lake to prepare for the next leg of their migration journey. I think Bernard Hamm who worked so hard in this region to help preserve these swans from extinction, would be very pleased with the progress they've made.
