"Ruby Throated Hummingbird And Lupine" by Debbie Oppermann. The Ruby Throated Hummingbird, Archilochus colubris, is a tiny bird species that is about 7-9cm long and has a 8-11cm wing span. It weighs from 2-6g and during hovering the wings beat 55 times per second. Nectar from flowers as well as small insects and spiders are its main food. These brilliant, tiny and precision flying birds glitter like jewels in the full sun, then vanish with a zip towards the next nectar source. The yellow Lupine attract the tiny Hummer in this summer garden at the arboretum in Guelph Ontario Canada.
