Eastern Kingbird - Tyrannus tyrannus. A few tell-tale features that give it away: Dark (almost black) head with a sharp white throat.
Gray body and darker wings. Distinct white band at the tip of the tail (a classic kingbird marker). Upright, watchful posture on an exposed perch -- very flycatcher behavior. They’re common across much of Canada and the eastern U.S. in spring and summer, often seen hawking insects over open fields and wetlands. Feisty little things too -- they’ll happily chase off birds much larger than themselves.
