Description
Even with experience in the field, distinguishing between a raven and a crow at a distance can sometimes be challenging. However, tail feather patterns provide a reliable identification cue. In flight, the crow displays a fan-shaped tail, with feathers of nearly equal length. In contrast, the raven's tail is wedge-shaped or diamond-like, with longer central feathers. In this image, captured as the bird takes off on a snowy day, the evenly spread, fan-shaped tail feathers clearly identify the bird. Its a crow!
