Description
The adult Robin ingests the fecal sac to discard it away from the nest.
Robins remove the feces of their chicks by eating or carrying away fecal sacs, which are tidy, mucus-covered pouches containing the chick’s waste. This behavior serves two important purposes:
Nest cleanliness: Keeping the nest clean prevents the buildup of bacteria and parasites that could harm the chicks.
Predator avoidance: Removing fecal sacs helps reduce odors and visible waste that could attract predators to the nest.
