What a great shot Debra. His pose is stellar and you captured the scene perfectly

Debra Plett

Thanks Clifford, the buck stopped for a split second and sniff where the doe left her scent. I literally had seconds to get this shots with his head up before he bolted into the bush.

Yves Langlois

Super shot Debra. Sure a front page of a specialised magazine. The special color tone of the forest in the back fit very well the proud look of that King buck. Thanks for the story too. The zoom option shows it with the perfect lighting to keep the mood of the picture.

Debra Plett

Thank you very much Yves for your kind comments. The brush and trees are mostly small burr oak trees. I will be sad when the rut is over it is such a great time of year to photograph the white-tail deer in Birds Hill Park.

Heather Mellon

That's an impressive pose you caught him in and a great story to go with the photo. A well detailed and very expressive image with the perfect title.. so well captured Debra!

Debra Plett

Thanks very much Heather. The rut is coming to a close in this area. These bucks will finally get some down time.

Jane LeBlanc

Nice capture, Debra. Right time, right place for sure.

Debra Plett

That is so correct Jane, thank you.

This white-tailed buck is a good example of a buck in full rut. His neck is so swollen his head appears to be pushed up or squeezed. The doe had left her scent on the edge of the bush and ran through the ditch and back into the trees. Suddenly I heard a crashing and this large buck came out of the bush. He stopped to check the scent and then followed her back into the bush. I am not sure how this big fellow even got through that twisted mess of brush.
