Description
Pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha), also known as humpback salmon, are a fascinating and ecologically important species found in the waters of Lake Superior. Unlike their Pacific cousins, these fish will spend their short lives living entirely in fresh water. Captured during the height fall spawn, this photo highlights the struggle that females face after they lay their eggs and complete their lifecycle. The image was captured just south of Nipigon, Ontario, in Wolf River.
