What a delightful capture. I have never seen a bird nesting as such. I really enjoyed studying this photo.

I like the lines at the top of the frame, Yves, which are part of the water that seems to wrap and frame the tree and nest. It's not always easy to find a nest to shoot down on but you found it here and the kingbird gives you a nice pose in the nest. The berry and the small branch with the yellow leaf are a nice spot of colour creating a frame within a frame to centre the dark kingbird. The lightness of the throat of the bird ensures that the eye goes to the main focus initially, the bird.

Thank you so much Harold. In addition to had that chance I must say that I love that shot very much. Like the effect of the surrounding wich is there and not there. I mean: Just few leaves suggest there is a tree, One berry suggest there is more, The background barely suggest the water. So everything around is there to softly compliment the nest.

The eastern kingbirds are pretty aggressive defenders of their nests but your quiet persistence really paid off. A delightful view of of her and that fabulous nest. I love the composition and how the soft colored foliage and berries frame her and the nest above the swirling water in the background and your focus is right on. A very beautiful capture of one of my favorite birds, Yves!

Yves Langlois

Thank you Heather. Your comment is much appreciated. It is one of my favorite too. I have many photo of them but no bird in flight yet. A shot when they catch insects over the water would satisfy me.. May be this summer

Description
Few easthern kingbirds inhabit a particular place on my Drummond dam trail. A place suited for their needs. A place from where they catch insects over the water. I know them well now and do some shots once in a while. This is my first time shooting a nest with a bird inside. At the first click of the camera she flew away. Not to endanger the eggs I retired and hide few minutes. She came back and so did I slowly, trying to be as invisible as possible.. She was kind enough to let me take few more shots. Many thanks to the lady.
