Description
After a warm morning with light rain drizzling on our car’s windshield, I knew that conditions were optimal to search for salamanders. I was lucky enough to be in the right location to try & find one of Canada’s rarest species. The Small-mouthed salamander’s entire Canadian population is found on one small & highly terraformed island. The Small-mouthed Salamander is federally listed as an endangered species & is threatened by habitat loss, road mortality, & introduced species such as turkey or common reeds (Phragmites australis australis).
