Thanks for your comment Jeff. You're right, the sun was low since it was approaching sunset and I noticed that too. I think the angle and glare of the sun is what made it look that way, unfortunately.

Appeciate that kind of -see through- capture. It forces a manual focus. A little more tricky for the photographer. Colors match is pleasant and focus on the eye is dam sharp.

So true Yves.. it took a few shots to get this one on manual focus.. I was so happy that he wasn't flighty like most of these hawks usually are.

Thank you Debra.. I wish the feather detail had been better but aside from that I was pretty satisfied with the shot.

Description
An obliging Rough-legged Hawk gave me a nice pose as he continued about his business of surveying the surrounding fields for mice on the move. They're back from their Arctic nesting sites and can be seen in the tree tops and on power poles at this time of year. Always a welcome sight to see!
