Description
This beautiful Great Egret had been feeding in the wetland of St. Clair National Wildlife Area when it decided to get up for a little air time. Fortunately for me, it flew almost directly overhead, and being backlit on this bright sunny day enabled me to catch the white wing feathers showing their main vane shaft. One can almost see the bone structure of the leading edge of the wing as well.
Great Egrets nest not too far away, at Walpole Island First Nation, so there are often a number of egrets around. On one evening not that long ago, I counted 22 getting ready to roost.
