Description
For the past several weeks I have been seeing turtles everywhere on and near the roadways. Please watch out for the turtles and if you can please help them cross the road. If you are going to help them cross the road be sure to take them in the same direction they were going. The turtle are coming to the edges of the roadways to lay eggs and/or cross to a new location. Here is a blanding's turtle I help cross the road near my house. So far this year I have help well over 20 turtles cross the road, from snappers to painted turtles. The other day I pulled over to help a painted turtle cross hwy 11 and made sure I was away from the road when traffic came by so nobody would hit it. While waiting on the side of the road a car actually swerved to hit this turtle!!!! I was really upset to watch the turtle, who was so close to making it across such a busy road, die right in front of me. :( :( Why do some people think it is ok to run over a turtle is beyond me!!!!! Here is a study that was done in the USA with a rubber turtle showing the percentage of cars that actually swerve to hit them...

I know sometimes you can't see them but please keep your eyes on the road and look out for these little guys! I hope the next time you see a turtle crossing the road you will pull over and help it to cross the road. Thanks for viewing and please share.
