Description
Red Trilliums are not uncommon across the forested landscape of eastern Canada and elsewhere. However a six-petalled one is extremely unusual. Trilliums normally have three petals and three sepals, but for some reason this oddball produced six petals! There is a provincial nature reserve called Trillium Woods just south of Woodstock, ON, that has a lot of different coloured trilliums. I came across this unusual individual in Rondeau Provincial Park, ON, this spring.
