The Overgrown Rat

by Allen_Woodliffe from Chatham CA on 05 Feb 2017

With all due respect to rats....this is an Opossum which to me, sort of looks like an overgrown rat. They used to be extremely rare in Ontario, but in the last 2-3 decades have become fairly common. You usually see them dead along the side of the road. Those individuals failed the chickens 'How to cross the road without getting killed' classes :-). The one shown here is still alive and kicking so far.

Hi Allen. I so miss the old days on CanGeo... I see you are still there. Superb Opossum shot and you are so correct . . . I have seen the odd one on the side of the road. Not is the wild though. I hope life is treating you well. I have made an email Can Geo friend - Wayne Duke - We may meet this summer along with his wife Linda. Love seeing your work....
