A beautiful capture of the mother loon guarding her young. From near or far it's always a thrill to spot the loons and you caught her in a great pose here. I have one I might upload, but it was a long shot too, which seems to be the way things go when it comes to the loons :) The babies show up very nicely in the zoom view too :) A beautiful capture Debra.

Thanks for comments Heather. Looking forward to seeing your image.

I too have tried to capture one of the loons on our lake. Like you, too far away. Early this spring one sailed by ten feet from my bank. Of course no camers !

Debra Plett

Thanks for commenting Jenny. It would seem that when you don’t have your camera close by Mother Nature throws something your way.

Nice pose of the loon Debra. He stand out well against the pale water color. Like your storyline as well. It is the right time of the season for motherhood pictures. I have some here at the marsh but like for you, they always stay too far for a 400mm close up. Keep on trying. One day we will have our chance.

Thank you Yves, yes she does not come in close when she has the little ones with her. There is also a reef just under the water close to her. The fishing maybe a little better out there.

Jeff

o good timing on that one i see the baby's as wall

Debra Plett

Thanks Jeff, she was rearing up a few times. I didn’t see any threats in the sky but who knows what was lurking beneath her.

Description
A very attentive mother Common Loon was demonstrating her protective side. They were a little far out to get a nice close up but it was still a thrill to watch her feed, teach and protect these two baby loons.
