Description
This past spring, I had the opportunity to observe a Great Horned Owl family nest site nearby. I wrote a blog post about it in my profile (with more pictures). Two chicks grew to become strong fledgling GHOs. The two weeks after they left the nest was a game of peek-a-boo every day trying to find them. On this day, we found each other and we scared each other. I wasn't aware it was above my head until it clicked (seriously, it makes clicking sounds with its beak) at me. I took my picture and left. You get a good view of the nictitating membrane here. We grew to have a tolerance of each other over a few months, but accidentally waking it up breached the accepted tolerance..
