Great capture of this awesome bird. They sure puff out when it is cold

Heather Mellon

Thank you so much Clifford. They've been doing that a lot lately but we're hoping for warmer temps next week and what a relief that will be for everyone.

Beautiful shot Heather, love the composition and the grosbeak stands out nicely against the soft white bokeh. I have noticed a few of the pine grosbeaks in the park that I walk in, however it has been so cold I have been leaving my camera at home. I think the weather is going to trend warmer by next week. ?

Hope you'll get a chance to photograph the grosbeaks in the park when the weather warms up, they make great subjects. The battery in my camera froze up on me last week just as I was ready to get a nice shot of a pair of the male grosbeaks together.. but that's life I guess. Thank you so much for your comments Debra, they're always appreciated.

Very nice compo with the white background. I dream to shoot one of those nice bird around my appartment building. The only birds I see is Goldfinh or chickadee.and a flock of mourning doves that eats up all the grains within a few minutes.

Heather Mellon

I hope one day you'll get that chance. These birds are not only very beautiful but also very pleasant to have around my yard. They have the nicest sound as they chatter among themselves almost constantly. I'm able to walk very close to them now making it easier to get better shots of them. Thank you so much for your comment Yves.

Description
A frosty faced male Pine Grosbeak who comes around each day for sunflower seeds during this cold spell that we've had since mid-December. What started out as a really small flock has increased in numbers since I started feeding them sunflower seeds.. so word gets around fast in the bird world.
