What a great action shot, Debra, and not an easy one to get either. Your timing was perfect in catching the gull with an open beak and ready to pounce on the insect. A truly rare and beautiful capture!

Thanks for your comments Heather they are always appreciated. I had a difficult time just keeping the seagull in the frame…Lady Luck was on my side with this one.

WOW! Terrific action shot Debra. The gull is sharp focus and very well detailed. The beak just opening for the catch. From my point of view it is no luck. You had a little help from my friend (you deserve it).

Thank you very much for you kind comment Yves. I am glad that your friend and mine granted me the shot. Always fun to see something different in nature.

Description
Just about an hour before the sunset a couple of Seagulls started to display a behaviour that we have never witnessed before. After doing a little reading I discovered that gulls will "hawk" for flying insects. The gulls were flying very erratically almost as if doing acrobatics. Turning on a dime and for an instance they would hover like a hawk. I tried to anticipate their moves but that was extremely difficult. I was very lucky to get this shot. It is hard to tell but this gull is about to catch the fly that is directly in front of him. I added a vignette to help highlight the immediate area around the gull.
