Thank you so much, Jeff. I guess it depends on the individual bird and this fellow wasn't budging :) It was a lot of fun to watch too..

Nice action shot Heather. The story depict well what happend here. Like very much the colours of the blue jay and the feeder in the corner. The blue jay is a heavy weight fighter and I have no dougt he will control the blackbird. You nicely capture a very good moment

Thank you so much, Yves! I love the bright colours too, it really livens up the scene. Blue Jays are certainly no slouches when it comes to situations like this, but they get lots of practice around here. It was really interesting to watch them and nice to be able to have a photo of the moment too.

Great image and storyline Heather. Love the pop of red colour from the feeder. You captured the moment perfectly, It appears as if the bottom Blackbird is trying to distract the Jay while the top Blackbird contemplates his next move. One of those fun shots that keeps you smiling.

Thank you so much, Debra. I thought the Blue Jay did well to stand his ground against the two of them. I wouldn't be surprised if they were working together but they were the ones who flew off in the end. It was a fun shot, I love capturing bird antics in photos like this :)

Description
When a flock of Black Birds suddenly alights on your territory and takes over your feeders it's time for a little intervention. I caught this Blue Jay doing just that at one of the feeders in the yard. Even though he was outnumbered this Jay held his own defending his turf and was able to take on a good feed of seeds shortly before the next batch of Blackbirds descended. Not sure if these were Brewer's Blackbirds which are common to our area in summer or Grackles.. so I've used the term Blackbird.
