Talk about camouflage. It doesn't get much better than this and I'm amazed that you were able to get such a good focus on the Bittern. I especially like the hint of autumn colour in the grasses which he blended in so nicely with. Well seen and captured, Yves.
Thank you Heather. Not intended to be a great shot. It is the follow up on the bittern's fishing. That bird must always fish in that kind of surrounding. The automatic focus is no use under those condition. You must go manual and focus your eye on the subject.
The Bittern would have been really tough to spot and photograph with all the grasses surrounding him. Love the colour tones and how the stripping in the bittern blend in with the darker long grasses. Nice shooting Yves.
Of course in the long grasses it not possible to get a nice shot of the bird. If he see you before and has the time to hide you will never notice him. I just had the time to notice a strange move in the grasses. Knowing it is his spot, I lower my body and hide behing some bushes. After a while he feel safe, quit the grasses and get near the water to eat.
