Excellent detail on this well focused close-up, Debra. The grouse show very nicely against the color of the soft tamarack needles and it makes for a beautiful image. I really enjoyed your narrative as I've had similar experiences with the ruffled grouse in this region too.

Interesting how friendly the grouse are, I haven’t seen any ruffled grouse yet this year. I wonder how the grouse would look once the needles start to change colour. Thanks for your feedback Heather.

Description
We were out at Dogtooth lake in Ontario for a week of work and relaxation while visiting with family. Two female spruce grouse decided to settle into the area to feed on the tamarack needles. Spruce grouse are known to be very friendly and tame but I didn't realize just how close they allow humans to get to them. These two ladies flew into a tree right close to the deck that we were working on. Even while walking around you had to be careful not to accidentally step on them. Needless to say I had some fun taking pictures of the two birds.
