I remember taking that ferry many years ago. It was a rough crossing. The time was wonderfully spent, listening to an elder tell stories while the boat heaved and rocked.

Harold Fleming

This new ferry is much more stable than the old Queen of the North, Jane, but it can still be rough on some crossings in the winter time.

Harold Fleming

It can definitely get rough at times, Jane, especially in the winter but this ferry takes it better than the old Queen of the North.

Debra Plett

Wonderful angle and composition Harold it gives the image a lot of depth. The bright colours against the clouds are stunning.

Harold Fleming

Thank you, Debra! I agree the long walkway going off into the horizon adds to the depth.

Harold Fleming

The long walkway does push the horizon back, Debra, adding to the depth.

Yves Langlois

Like that shot Harold. Good idea that you had to contrast the bright color against the pale background. And the shot is well done too.

Harold Fleming

Thanks, Yves! It's so often the colour that attracts us to a possible photo and that's true in this case. Finding a composition came second and wasn't hard in this case.

Harold Fleming

Thank you, Yves!

Description
A beautiful day to cross the Hecate Strait by ferry allowed me to get out on deck to show the bright contrast of one of the onboard safety features to the soft colour in the sky.
