Another excellent capture of the cormorant in action, Yves. You get a sense of how powerful their wings must be to stir the waters up this way. It also explains why they spend so much time on drying and preening their wing feathers. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this series is a great example of that. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Heather. The great thing about nature is that there is always something new to learn. I am use to the cormarant for 3 years now. It is the first time I happend to see that move..
Very nice story Yves, it makes perfect sense that this is a tactic used to catch fish. The arc of water created by the flapping of the wings adds dimension to the image. Nicely captured.
Thank you Debra. Yes, it make sense. Of course I presented only two shots that are the most interesting, but I have shots of the hole technique, from the slowly swiming up to the diving.. The bird did not emerge from the water with a fish though. He did that three times. before going to the rock.
The arc of the water from the wings makes a nice contrast to the straight line of water under the cormorant. Nice timing, Yves!
