An interesting and lovely capture of 'a day in the life' of the Osprey, Debra. Looks like they have the perfect nesting site here too.

Debra Plett

Thanks Heather. It’s a great place for them to cool of but I don’t believe they are catching fish from the water directly below the nest.

Harold Fleming

She may have brought a nibble home for the one chick, Debra. I'm not familiar with the feeding process when they are that young.

Debra Plett

The male will deliver the fish to the nest and the female will feed the chicks. She will then fly over to a hydro pole to eat the rest of the fish. In this picture she had flown to the water to clean up after eating. Thanks for comments Harold.

Thanks for the follow up on the osprey family. That gravel island with lots of boulder is a great compo. showing the osprey in shallow water eating a fish. Well capture.

Debra Plett

Thanks Yves for your comment Yves. That distance is a little too far away for the 70-400 even after the image was cropped. Not allowed to go down into the gravel pit...RCMP are issuing tickets for trespassing.

Jeff

good find on this one good detailing

Debra Plett

Thanks Jeff, always appreciated.

Description
Female Osprey had been eating a fish away from the nest while the male Osprey watched over the eggs/chicks. She had decided to go and clean up and cool off in the gravel pit below the nest. Based off of when they were mating there should be at least one chick in the nest and hopefully one or two more to hatch.
