Description
I shot this on July 23rd on a day that promised to be fairly active. My storm chasing crew and I left Calgary very very early and we ended up making our way up towards Sundre as it was our target area. After some selfies with the tank at olds and an ice cream at Caroline the storms started to fire up....way way further north then we expected. No chaser likes chasing up in Caroline and Alder Flats as there's no way to tell what's going on with storms due to spotty cell and radar service and generally poor visibility due to the trees lining almost every inch of every road. We managed to find a spot near Alder where supercells were firing back to back and we saw this cell pushing south, so we packed everything and shot down to this spot as fast as we could, we had about 5 minutes to get our shots before getting pummelled by hail. We promptly fled but it was the most incredible thing I think I've ever seen casing.
