Welcome to the world

Yesterday I was able to witness something extra special and completely surprising - a harbour seal giving birth! While taking photos of a seal pup swimming around in front of me, I glanced over at the adult bathing on the rocks to my left and noticed a membrane protruding from her. After what seemed like only a minute, the newborn pup was out, free of the amniotic sac and taking it's first breath. I could hardly believe it! Here, only a few minutes old, the pup is being welcomed into the world by it's mother. I feel very lucky that I was there to witness such an incredible event.
