Waiting to emerge

by Allen_Woodliffe from Chatham CA on 30 Oct 2017

This monarch chrysalis, or pupa, is freshly made, and after about 10 days will emerge as an adult. The chrysalis is a fabulous design, and hard to believe that something so delicate and colourful can develop inside the body of a caterpillar. Somewhat surprisingly they are still at this stage well into the fall. One just emerged from its chrysalis here in southwestern Ontario only about a week ago.

What a great find Allen. I only saw two or three monarchs all summer (just north of Kingston) There used to be so many more.
