While having a picnic in the wilderness - Job and I saw this Northern Pygmy Owl being mobbed by a couple of birds. The birds made such a noise I grabbed my monocular to investigate what the commotion was about! Although this is my fifth sighting of this owl - I have managed to obtain two photographs. The other photo is also posted here at my gallery, and I think it is a little it better. This was a more interesting encounter though :)

Jeff, I think they are just over here in the western part of Canada. Stay safe out there :)

The forest talks - if we will learn to listen ha ha. We almost walked on top of a bull moose on the same outing! We noticed each other at the last moment - and he was like a bulldozer crashing through the trees away from us! Job stayed by my side, - so I knew something was out there :) I am glad it was the moose and not the grizzly bear that marked all the trees out there. Job is a master at finding the trees bears use as a scratch post to mark their territory!

I'm always amazed with how small they are. Wonderful you found this one out in the open! I love it when the other birds give the clue that something 'unusual' is nearby!
