Thanks Martin :) Right now I am reading a book on the area where this photo was taken: "Gerry Get Your Gun." It is about Gerry Bracewell - the first licenced female hunting guide in British Columbia. I am only a few chapters in and it sure is a good read. Last year when I was hiking up in the mountains I met this guy in a cabin who says she is still around, so I will have to try and pay her a visit. She runs a wilderness adventure operation, and her book says she welcomes visitors! Job and I will have to go and say hi :) Thanks again!

Thanks Mellon :) I am so glad that you found some enjoyment looking at it! I sure love seeing all of the wonderful photographs being part of this club. Job and I are off camping in about two hours :)

Love the contrast between the snow covered mountains and the flames of the campfire.. and everything in between. This image draws the viewer in so beautifully. I agree with Yvan that it would be a perfect selection for photo of the week!!

Thanks Yvan & Watson! Job and I are heading out trailer camping this week, so hopefully we will obtain opportunities to take some more wildlife photographs :)

Thanks you two :) This was my last fire before Job and I headed back for our wilderness extraction. We actually cut our trip in half because there were too many critters paying too much attention to us. The first night we had a cougar visit our camp, and the night before we took this shot - a grizzly bear in the middle of the night paid us a visit! We broke camp and hit the water at 4AM to the calm waters you see, and then we had this breakfast fire until the grizzly came for another visit - and this is an hour paddle away! We split! Of all my outdoor excursions - I have never had critters pay so much attention to me. Usually, I just observe them from a safe distance, and they pay no attention to me :) Job and I still had a blast :) We surfed the waves home to safety ha ha - quite the experience.

Seeing this view from behind the campfire really brings me into the scene. I love the contrasts in this shot: near and far, fire and ice, orange flame against blue sky/water, those permanent mountains and the ephemeral twists of flame. Great job!
