Despite 'common' being part of this butterfly's name, it is anything but common in Canada. In some years, a few venture into southern Ontario by mid to late summer. This current year, 2016, has been unprecedented as far as their presence here. I have seen more individuals this year than all my other years of butterfly searching combined. It is a small butterfly, only about 25-30 mm across.
