Orange Plants and Grazing Caribou

Description
In this photo, taken in 2014 near the Daring Lake Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Station, I was in the process of photographing plots of vegetation when some caribou began approaching our research site. I had left my regular DSLR camera back at camp this day and happened to be using a specially outfitted camera which is designed to be sensitive to near infrared light. This is the type of light which green plants strongly reflect away, while absorbing visible wavelengths from the sun for photosynthesis. This camera is set up such that any green vegetation in the images comes out as bright orange, giving a very unique perspective from a photography point of view, and it also allows us to precisely quantify the amount of vegetation in a specific area or plot. On this day, I had to make use of the only camera I had available in order to capture some images of these Bathurst Herd caribou.
