Description
The community of Resolute provides a vital station for Arctic science. Almost all scientists working in the Canadian Archipelago are deployed from the Polar Continental Shelf Program (PCSP) in Resolute Bay. PCSP takes care of arctic researchers, coordinating flights to remote islands, and daily check-ins to make sure we are safe. As a result, for many first-time arctic explorers like myself, Resolute Bay is the first experience we have of nothern terrain and the Arctic Ocean. This image is taken from Resolute Bay prior to my first deployment to Devon Island via PCSP. The last of the sea ice has yet to melt for the summer season. We are facing south, towards the rest of Canada, at the edge of a new horizon at the gateway to the north.
